The Most Popular Fashion Trends in the Past Decade

In this easy come and easy go age, most of the fashion trends appear and end in no time. The fast-pacing fashion industry has been changing rapidly, but a few trends stay for long and become the fashion statement. They are hard to replace with something new, and sometimes they come back in style for a brand-new generation.

When FAYVO talked about the spring-summer fashion of the year 2021, you all loved it. Now, we are here to give detailed insights into the fashion trends from the past decade. The years from 2000 to 2020 were a quickly growing era. Many new spots were introduced for adventure, a lot of new and advanced eating spots opened, and with that, we got tons of exciting options for entertainment.

It is quite challenging to predict what will happen in the coming years, but we can say that some trends will inevitably stay close to our hearts, no matter how much time has passed. So, let’s know about some of the most iconic style trends of the last decade

Save List

Crop Tops

Be it a night out with friends or a usual day at work; crop tops were a hit for everyday wear. Back in the ‘90s, when crop tops got popular for the first time, with the beginning of the past decade, we saw them rocking once again. It started out innocently when cropped shirts were paired with high-waisted pants or skirts, but later they were paired with every other bottom. They got popular for their easy-going nature. They can either be worn casually or in a more formal setting.

Athleisure

Back in the 2010s, casual wear was allowed to be worn only in the comfort of your home. However, as the past decade emphasized, ‘casual is the new formal,’ everyone stepped into the train. Athleisure can be easily defined as casual, comfortable clothing designed for exercise, everyday wear, and random outings. Back in 2010, wellness movements took a new turn; everyone started to promote a healthy lifestyle and go to the gym at least once a day. Right then, athleisure played its part in boosting the much-needed push to the new fashion trend. These include extremely comfortable yoga pants and unique sports trousers in higher-quality fabrics and vibrant colors.

Logos, Logos, and More Logos

For some people, fashion is all about branded clothes and accessories. In the past decade, it was mostly about the known brands. Be it T-shirts, trousers, sunglasses, shoes, bags, or anything else; logos were everywhere. That was the time when social media started influencing everyone’s lives, and people just began following influencers and content creators. Designer logos like Chanel, Dior, and Fendi were known to be status symbols.

Leggings

Anyone who follows the latest fashion trends must have got a pair of leggings as one clothing item in the past decade. No, they were not boring at all. There we saw printed leggings, plain black leggings, striped leggings, leggings that clearly look like they were made for the workout, shiny leggings, floral ones, leather leggings, and leggings for every other event. It was popular. Before they got popular, leggings were worn under big sweaters and dresses only, but after they got the limelight, they were basically treated as pants.

High-Waist Jeans

The last decade is usually known to be the comfort-style decade. As the 2010s progressed, we all got used to the easy-way. From skinny jeans to mom jeans and flared ones, everything just got high-waisted. People started wearing them with sweaters, t-shirts, tank tops, or anything they liked. High-waisted shorts sky-rocketed in popularity, and the trend got hype from Taylor Swift.

Oversized Everything

Cute, comfortable, and easy was the style statement of every other Diva in the fashion industry. Oversized clothes were the rising trend of the decade, and it was loved by the audience. It was actually in retaliation to skin-tight everything in the late 2000s. So, with the beginning of the last decade, oversized jumpers, t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, coats, blazers, and even trousers and jeans, were chosen by all.

Off the Shoulder

Off-the-shoulder tops and dresses were known to be the style statement for the last few years. The trend worked for everyone. For those who loved baggy shirts to more fitted dresses, it was the go-to trend. Many celebs and influencers also promoted the trend, e.g., Meghan Markle. Depending on what you pair with it, it can look boho and casual or classic and refined.

Streetwear

This fashion trend was primarily highlighted by social media. Streetwear style comprises mainly baggy t-shirts and hoodies with lots of logos, colors, and graphics. The style was first introduced back in the seventies and early eighties. Brands like Stüssy, Supreme, A Bathing Ape, Off-White, and Hood By Air changed the look, and hence it got popular in public. After the popularity, many local designers also started producing products inspired by streetwear.
